One of our most popular lessons this term has been Science where we are looking at the life cycle of plants. We started with plant organs and learnt about the role of the roots in absorbing water for the plant. We soaked onions in water for over a week in our classrooms and children enjoyed looking at how much roots grew. We then used magnifying glasses to examine and draw the onion roots, some of our children even spotted root hairs!
We also learnt about how plants make food and the importance of sunlight for photosynthesis. We examined a basil plant that had been kept in the dark for a week and compared it to one that had received sunlight and water.
