History
At our school, we believe that a high-quality history education helps pupils develop a clear understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world. Our curriculum equips all learners with the knowledge, cultural capital, and enquiry skills needed to question, recall, and interpret historical events. We aim to help children appreciate the diversity of societies, understand the relationships between different groups, and strengthen their own sense of identity.
We teach History through the Kapow History scheme, a progressive and enquiry-led programme that provides full National Curriculum coverage and a clearly sequenced learning journey from Early Years to Year 6. History often acts as a springboard for cross-curricular learning, allowing pupils to make strong, meaningful links across subjects. To deepen engagement and bring historical learning to life, we enhance units with linked trips and workshops wherever possible.
History is delivered through whole-class teaching and continuous provision. Each half-term, significant events, key figures, and important dates are also explored through class assemblies, helping pupils build chronological understanding and historical awareness.
In Years 1–6, when the overarching topic is history-based, pupils take part in weekly history lessons. In the Early Years Foundation Stage, History is interwoven throughout the curriculum and embedded within their half-term themes.
